Malleable Bot¶
Malleable Bot lets you talk to Malleable where you already work: Slack, Microsoft Teams, the Malleable app, and AI tools like Claude. Ask it about your workflows and runs, or ask it to build and run them.
What you can ask¶
- Find a run. "Find the refund request from Acme." It finds the run and links you to it.
- Find out why a run failed. "Why did yesterday's invoice run fail?" It reads what the run did and explains it in plain words.
- Build or change a workflow. "Every Monday, post last week's new customers in #sales." It checks with you before publishing.
- Try a workflow. "Test the expense approval draft with a $5,000 receipt." It starts a test run and tells you what happened.
- Do a quick task in a connected app. "List the open Asana tasks assigned to me."
In Slack and Teams¶
Send Malleable Bot a direct message, or @-mention it in a channel. It replies where you asked. In a direct message, just keep typing. In a channel thread, @-mention Malleable Bot each time you reply.
Start a workflow from a message¶
To let people start a workflow by messaging Malleable Bot, give the workflow a Slack trigger or a Microsoft Teams trigger. Ask Malleable to "start this workflow when someone mentions Malleable Bot in #it-help."
When someone does, Malleable reads the message and starts a run if it fits the workflow. If it isn't clear, it asks in the thread. In a Slack channel, Malleable Bot marks the message with 👀 when it picks it up and ✅ once the run starts.
Follow a run in the thread¶
A run started from a conversation posts there. It starts with a link to open the run in your browser. Then you see what Malleable is doing as it works. You choose what shows up there. See who sees a run.
When the run needs something from people, it asks with a card:
- In Slack, a single question shows buttons or a menu. A form with several questions shows a Respond button that opens the form inside Slack.
- In Teams, the whole form is in the card. Fill it in and submit it there.
Answer a handoff¶
When a run hands off to someone in Slack or Teams, Malleable Bot messages them and the run waits. In a direct message, they just reply. In a channel, they reply in the message's thread and @-mention Malleable Bot. If the handoff has a form, select Respond here in Slack. In Teams, the form arrives as a card.
Connect an app from the conversation¶
If Malleable needs an app you haven't connected, it posts a card such as "Connect Notion to continue." Connect opens your browser to sign in with your own account, and Malleable carries on in the thread. Deny tells it to carry on without that app.
In the Malleable app¶
Press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows) on any page, or click Chat at the top of the app. Malleable knows which workflow or run you have open, so you can say "this run" or "this workflow".
Each workflow and run keeps its own chat, so opening the chat again picks up where you left off. Chat lists all your chats, and a chat that's waiting on you is marked Needs your reply. A workflow's runs page also has an ask box above the list: "Help me find the run where…".
To build or change a workflow, use the chat beside its canvas. Changes you ask for anywhere else show up there too.
From Claude and other AI tools¶
Connect Claude or another AI tool that supports MCP, and you can list, build, edit and run your workflows from there. See MCP server.
Approvals¶
Malleable asks before it changes anything in a connected app, like sending a message or adding a row to a sheet. It also asks before a test run that makes real changes. A card shows what it wants to do and why.
- In the app, choose Approve for this one action, Allow all this session to stop being asked about that kind of action for the rest of the chat, or Decline.
- In Slack and Teams, choose Approve or Deny. The action runs as the person who approves it.
In a Slack or Teams channel, Malleable Bot asks before it lets everyone in the conversation see one of your workflows. Choose Allow for this thread, Allow in this channel for every thread there, or Don't allow.
Set up Malleable Bot¶
Slack. Each person connects Slack from Integrations in the account menu, so Malleable Bot knows who they are. To use it in a channel, invite Malleable Bot to that channel.
Microsoft Teams. A Teams admin installs Malleable Bot. To use it in a channel, add Malleable Bot to that team. For Malleable Bot to message people directly, the admin installs it for them, for example with an app setup policy. Each person then connects Microsoft 365 from Integrations.
People who haven't connected can still start workflows that listen in a channel, and answer runs that ask them something.
